A very handmade wine. Harvest is by hand and the fruit is sorted so only the best grapes get through. It’s a costly process, as you might imagine, but the results are evident in the Nerio. It has the fruit concentration and structure to take on age so well, showing complex dried fruit character and leather on the nose. But the wine still has so much vibrancy that it could continue to develop for years to come – if it lasts that long in the rack… which it won’t. Founded in 1999, Schola Sarmenti produces great wines with love and devotion from native vines such as Fiano, Negroamaro and Primitivo, a great expression of the precious terroir of Salento. The winery is proud of its excellent and ancient vineyards with vines up to 80 years old. Benedetto Lorusso preserves the ancient training system, Alberello Pugliese. This is an important choice, a technique so difficult and so precise that only the most expert practitioners are able to craft high quality and high prestige wines using it. The measure of success is in the awards and prizes won from all over the world for their wines.
“A ruby-red wine with a light shade of purple. Generous in fruit flavour and spicy notes, its vaguely sweet taste stimulates your imagination. It shows remarkable intrigue in its complexity and never fails to enchant with its supple, finely textured palate.” Benedetto Lorusso, Winemaker.
